Chris Christie thinks Iran’s potential for nuclear capability makes the country a bigger threat to America than the Islamic State.

“If you’re prioritizing the threats, which a president has to do, then I think that Iran is a greater threat,’’ Christie said in an interview The Atlantic’s Jeffrey Goldberg. “I believe Iran is moving toward obtaining a nuclear weapon. I have no proof at this point that ISIS is moving toward obtaining weapons of mass destruction.”

The interview continued the New Jersey governor’s recent national security pitch designed to improve his standing with Republican primary voters, though a nationwide poll from CNN released Friday shows flat support for Christie.

Christie in the magazine interview gave the reasons he thinks President Obama’s foreign policy has hurt the U.S.

“I will tell you that the people I listen to tell me all the time that there is no overarching strategy here. It’s a series of one-offs. He makes these one-off decisions that he doesn’t think have a domino type of effect, but they do. Everything you do has an effect,” Christie said.

Jordan reports for the Asbury Park Press.
